Lake Country Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was founded in February of 2015, by coaches Maggie Snowsell and Donavin Scott.

Our facility on Main Street features lots of free parking, air conditioning, and 800 square feet of 2-inch safety mats. Whether you're a seasoned practitioner or just getting started, our experienced coaches and friendly community will help you achieve your martial arts goals.

Donavin Scott

Black Belt: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Donavin began training BJJ in 2011 at NOS BJJ & MMA in Grindrod, and received his blue, purple, brown and black belts from Professor Mario Deveault. He is dedicated to and passionate about helping students build confidence, discipline, and a love of martial arts. Several of Donavin's students have achieved great success in competitions, thanks to his expert coaching and guidance.

 

Donavin has also competed at the black belt level, across Canada and in the United States, winning the following awards:

Maggie Scott

Purple Belt: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Maggie Scott is a purple belt who began training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2013 and has been a competitor in locally held tournaments. She was awarded her blue belt by Professor Mario in 2014 and her purple belt by Coach Donavin in 2019. Coach Maggie is a passionate and experienced BJJ practitioner who loves working with kids and helping them develop their skills and confidence on the mats. As a coach, Maggie focuses on creating a safe and supportive learning environment where young students can thrive and grow. 

Coach Maggie also has a passion for helping other women gain confidence by learning self-defense. She teaches ladies only classes at our family friendly club.

Gregor Burton

Brown Belt: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Gregor is a brown belt under Professor Donavin and Professor Mario, having also been awarded both his purple and blue belts under the same lineage. He has been with LCBJJ since he began his BJJ career, and has trained extensively at NOS BJJ & MMA in Vernon, as well as Kootenay BJJ in Rossland. Gregor has been a coach at LCBJJ since 2020. In addition to his past experience wrestling during his teenaged years, Gregor has supplemented his BJJ by training Judo with Kathy Hubble and Chris Smiley at Lake Country Judo. 

Gregor is a prodigious competitor. He has travelled extensively to test himself, including competing three times at the prestigious ADCC North American Championships, and has achieved the following accolades:

Jeff Cuthbert

Purple Belt: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Jeff Cuthbert Jeff is a purple belt under Professor Donavin, under whom he was also awarded his blue belt. He has been an assistant coach for the kid’s classes since 2021. Jeff became a member of LCBJJ with his son, Owen, and—despite no prior grappling experience—quickly fell in love with the sport. He has been one of our most consistent and contributive team members since joining the club.

Jeff has competed on the big stage, achieving the following results:

2023: IBJJF No-Gi World Championship 2023 - M5 Purple Belt Super-heavyweight, 3rd IBJJF Master’s World Championship 2023 - M5 Blue Belt Super-heavyweight, 1st IBJJF Master’s World Championship 2023 - M5 Blue Belt Absolute, 2nd. 

2024: IBJJF World Masters Championship Purple Belt Masters 5 Super-heavyweight Bronze Medalist:
